In 2022, Hollands Kroon implemented a new recycle tariff affecting waste management. This initiative divides the waste disposal fee into a fixed and a variable component, giving residents a direct influence on their payments.
By 2025, the tariff structures have been revised. The fixed rate has been reduced while the variable rate has been increased. This adjustment benefits efficient waste separators, offering them reduced charges and incentivizing better waste management practices.
Reducing waste translates to fewer pollutants entering the environment, positively affecting air, water, and soil quality. The recycle tariff aims to calculate waste processing costs, known as the waste disposal fee, comprising fixed and variable portions.
The upcoming 2025 municipal tax bills for residents and businesses will include two types of costs for waste disposal:
The recycle tariff has significantly reduced residual waste amounts. In 2023, each resident offered 50 kilograms less residual waste, benefiting both the environment and their finances, as residual waste is costly and polluting.
To amplify cost and climate benefits, Hollands Kroon will widen the gap between fixed and variable waste disposal fee components, making residual waste disposal more expensive and lowering the fixed fee. This shift further promotes reduced waste disposal.
In 2023, each resident disposed of 94 kilograms of waste, with only 25 kilograms being actual residual waste. Properly disposing of materials like organic waste, paper, plastic, glass, textiles, and reusable items reduces the amount sent to incinerators.
